Commercial real estate company Bedrock, in partnership with Rocket Community Fund, is launching a new initiative called Decked Out Detroit. The four-month plan aims to support downtown businesses during the winter by providing heated open-air pergolas for outdoor dining, giving access to complimentary parking at Bedrock lots and garages, and promoting shopping and various activities.
鈥淒espite the pandemic, many businesses in downtown Detroit have shown incredible resilience and continued to support the local community with innovative new programs,鈥 says Kofi Bonner, CEO of Bedrock, in a press release. 鈥淒ecked Out Detroit is designed to build on that momentum by creating safe ways for the public to mask up, get outside and enjoy their city.鈥
Starting Dec. 18, Decked Out Detroit will open safe outdoor dining areas that are designed in compliance with the state and the CDC鈥檚 COVID-19 safety guidelines. The partially enclosed pergolas will be placed around the city and feature space heaters, tables, and chairs. Diners can order food and drink from participating restaurants, which include Avalon Bakery, Besa, Buddy鈥檚 Pizza, Calexico, Cannelle, Cornerstone, Eatori, Hudson Caf茅, Maru, Mootz, and San Morello.
Decked Out Detroit is also promoting pop-up shops that are open for business 鈥 Dose Collective, Former Vintage, Krispy Addicts, Playground Detroit, and Spun Sugar 鈥 on its website. The site also features a directory of local businesses and information on things to do downtown.
Current activities include the Garden Maze at Capitol Park, stationary art installations at the Greenhouses at Cadillac Square, a window art installation put on in partnership with Design Core, and a light installation down Woodward Avenue. A press release says other large, family-friendly activations will be announced later this winter.
Kicking off on Dec. 14, those who purchase items from a participating retailer or restaurant will receive eight hours of free parking at a Bedrock parking location (see the map above for details). Bedrock is also offering $10 discounts on Lyft rides to and from Detroit from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. every Saturday. The offer, which can be accessed in the Lyft app using the code 鈥淏edrockDetroit,鈥 is being offered now.
