Fans are welcome at this year’s Rocket Mortgage Classic, which takes place June 28-July 4 at the historic Detroit Golf Club. Tickets will be available for purchase starting tomorrow for general admission to the Delta Dental Pro-Am on June 30 and the tournament’s four competition rounds on July 1-4.
Launched in 2019, the tournament is the only PGA Tour event ever held in the city of Detroit. Unfortunately for golf lovers, last year’s event did not permit spectators due to COVID-19 restrictions. Although the state has recently lifted the outdoor mask mandate for both vaccinated and unvaccinated people, the third edition of the tournament will require attendees to wear masks when not eating or drinking. There will also be electronic ticketing and touchless payment options.
“We are thrilled to be able to welcome Michigan’s most passionate golf fans back to the Rocket Mortgage Classic,” says Jason Langwell, executive director of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, in a press release. “The tournament extends a big thanks to our city and state government and health officials and the Rocket Mortgage team for working with us to create and approve our robust health and safety plan.”
Bryson DeChambeau, last year’s tournament champion, will return to the Motor City to defend his title. Other prominent golfers, including Rickie Fowler, Bubba Watson, Harold Varner III, and Jason Day, will also compete for the event’s $7.5 million purse.
Tickets, which can be purchased online, are $20 for the Delta Dental Pro-Am event while competition tickets are $60 for Thursday, $70 for Friday, and $80 for Saturday and Sunday. With a donation of $313 to the Faces of Area 313 program, golf fans can also snag tickets for practice rounds, the final round of the John Shippen Tournament, and the Area 313 Celebrity Scramble on June 28 and 29.
The program allows fans to “purchase a face” — this can be an image of their face or a face of their choosing, such as a frontline worker or a loved one lost to COVID — to be displayed near holes 14-16 at the Detroit Golf Club. Donations will be matched by the Faces of Area 313’s presenting sponsor, Priority Health, and will benefit Rocket Mortgage Classic’s Changing the Course initiative, which aims to improve access to inherent and cellular service in Detroit.
