Q: I have missing and damaged teeth, but I don鈥檛 want to wear dentures that can shift or slip and need to be removed for cleaning. Is there a better option?
A: If you鈥檙e tired of living with the pain, inconvenience, and embarrassment that comes with major dental problems, Teeth Tomorrow庐 Prettau庐 Zirconia implant bridges might be the proven, permanent solution you鈥檙e looking for.
鈥淚n the past, patients had to wear a removable compete denture, often for more than six months, before their fixed bridges could be made,鈥 Dr. Craig Goldin says. 鈥淲ith the Teeth Tomorrow technique, hopeless teeth are removed, a set of implants is placed, and customized temporary bridges are securely attached to the implants. Your final Prettau Zirconia bridge is made four to six months later, when your implants have stabilized.鈥
Each Teeth Tomorrow dental bridge is precision-sculpted from a solid block of Prettau Zirconia, the most durable, state-of-the-art dental material. 鈥淯nlike other bridge materials, Prettau Zirconia is extremely resistant to chipping, cracking, and breaking. It鈥檚 nonporous, so it doesn鈥檛 stain, discolor, retain odors, or attract plaque and harmful bacteria,鈥 Dr. Marcy Goldin explains. 鈥淵our custom-made, hand-finished dental bridges are held firmly in place by your implants, so you don鈥檛 have to take them out of your mouth.鈥
鈥淒esigned to last a lifetime, Prettau Zirconia implant bridges look and function like natural, beautiful teeth and gums,鈥 Dr. David Whalen adds. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a life-changing option that allows you to smile, chew, and speak with renewed confidence.鈥

Q: What is total facial rejuvenation?
A: Total facial rejuvenation is a combination of different procedures that can take 10 to 20 years off your appearance. Starting from the top, descending brows are typically addressed with a minimally invasive endoscopic brow-lift that involves five small incisions hidden in the hairline.
Rejuvenation of the eyelids usually entails an upper and lower eyelid-lift. If aging is minimal, you may consider a laser or chemical peel of the lids. To combat 鈥渢ear troughs鈥 in the lower lids, a filler can be injected to dramatically improve the under-eye area.
A cheek implant, or fillers such as fat or an FDA-approved filler such as Voluma, can restore volume in flattened cheeks and diminish deep laugh lines.
The two things people notice most about their facial aging are prominent jowls and sagging in the neck. There are a number of different face-lift procedures to take care of these concerns. A traditional face-lift rejuvenates the lower two-thirds of the face, focusing mainly on the jawline and neck, while a mini-lift addresses early signs of aging.
These procedures can be customized to your anatomy and skin type, to give you a natural, more youthful, and refreshed facial appearance.

Q: What鈥檚 the difference between a Botox brow-lift and a surgical forehead-lift?
A: A Botox 鈥渂row-lift鈥 creates the illusion of a more arched or elevated brow. Properly placed Botox can relax and soften facial muscles that pull the brow and forehead down when you squeeze your eyes, frown, or make other muscle movements. Botox doesn鈥檛 lift muscles, but it stops the muscles from pulling too hard 鈥 thereby reversing, reducing, and preventing wrinkles and sagging.
Botox treatments last about three months. It鈥檚 a wonderful rejuvenating therapy, but if you have a low brow and low forehead, Botox won鈥檛 lift those areas as much as you may hope.
An endoscopic forehead-lift is a minimally invasive solution that offers many benefits. The outpatient procedure is done through small, unnoticeable incisions behind the hairline. Using an endoscope and a fiber optic camera, the forehead and brow area are elevated to reduce horizontal forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and crow鈥檚 feet.
With the development of innovative techniques over the last 20 years, the endoscopic procedure is extremely effective and well-tolerated; patients have a shorter recovery, less pain, and very long-lasting, excellent results.

Q: I鈥檓 seeing more signs of aging on my face, and I鈥檝e thought about having Botox and fillers. How can I be sure that I鈥檒l look natural, and not fake or overdone?
A: No one wants to look puffy because of a filler, or have a startled, frozen appearance after receiving an injectable. The majority of people who seek anti-aging treatments want to look like a younger version of themselves, not like a different person. In order to get the natural-looking results you desire, consult with a board-certified dermatologist who has the training, expertise, and experience, and who knows how to use the latest tools and techniques.
Instead of giving multiple injections with a sharp needle, Dr. David S. Balle uses a smooth-tipped cannula in only one or two insertion sites to fill the entire treatment area. When the cannula glides through the skin, it鈥檚 more comfortable than a needle. It also causes less tissue injury and bruising.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments are becoming increasingly popular. PRP contains stem cells and growth factors from the patient鈥檚 own blood. When injected into the scalp, PRP stimulates hair regrowth. Most people see a 35 percent or more increase in hair amount and thickness.
PRP combined with micro-needling is one of the best treatments for rejuvenating the skin. Micro-needling creates medically-controlled micro injuries. Dr. Balle micro-needles an area of skin, covers that with the plasma, and then redoes the micro-needling to drive in the stem cells and growth factors. The treatment promotes new collagen growth, smooths fine lines, and gives the skin a healthier glow.

Q: My skin looks dull, and I鈥檝e noticed more brown spots and wrinkles. What type of treatment can rejuvenate my skin without a long recovery?
A: The Sciton Halo laser is the world鈥檚 first hybrid fractional laser that effectively treats multiple layers of the skin with minimal downtime.
A topical anesthetic is applied to the skin to maximize comfort. The Halo handpiece is rolled across the treatment areas, simultaneously delivering ablative energy to the deeper skin layers and nonablative energy to the surface. Motion-tracking technology ensures that the skin is treated evenly.
Patients begin to see the results of their customized treatment in just a few days as the outer, damaged layer of skin will peel, revealing new and improved skin. Improvements continue over several weeks as new skin cells regenerate, resulting in smoother, glowing skin and a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance.
Halo treats aging skin, hyperpigmentation, uneven tone, enlarged pores, and other common skin concerns.

Q: What innovative techniques and technology are helping patients enjoy healthier, more attractive smiles?
A: Periodontist Dr. Joseph Nemeth uses the minimally invasive Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation Technique to lengthen unattractive receding gums 鈥 typically with no incisions, no stitches, and virtually no pain.
鈥淲e make a small pinhole in the gum above the teeth to be treated, and we gently bring the gum tissue down over the receded area. The Pinhole Technique improves the smile tremendously. It can be life-changing,鈥 says Dr. Nemeth, the first gum specialist in Michigan to be certified in this technique.
For patients who have a 鈥渉orsey鈥 or gummy smile, Dr. Nemeth performs a minimally invasive, lip-lowering procedure that not only prevents too much gum tissue from showing, but gives the patient a plumper, more attractive lip. Prior to drawing blood or giving intravenous sedation, he uses a near-infrared light technology, VeinViewer Flex, to harmlessly locate the patient鈥檚 veins to avoid multiple 鈥渟ticks.鈥
Dr. Nemeth was one of the first periodontists in the state to off er the All-On-Four procedure, which utilizes four strategically placed dental implants to securely hold in place a complete set of upper or lower teeth. 鈥淧eople come in with no teeth or unhealthy teeth that need to be removed, and they walk out the same day with a set of good-looking, functional, permanent teeth. It鈥檚 miraculous,鈥 he says.

Q: What鈥檚 the best way to optimize and maintain health and beauty as I age?
A: The easy answer is bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.
As we age, levels of all of our vital hormones decline, leading to hormone imbalance. Optimal hormone levels are essential for optimal health and quality of life. The benefits of balancing hormones with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy include significant improvements in fat loss, muscle tone, muscle mass and strength, skin integrity resulting in the reduction of wrinkles, energy levels, sex drive, sexual function and orgasms, sleep, memory and concentration, emotional well-being and stability, mood, immune system, inflammation, blood glucose levels, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, bone strength, vision, reduction of menopause symptoms, and much more.
Dr. George Shanlikian, medical director of Genemedics, is a national leader in the field of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy and preventive health. He鈥檚 a pioneer in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy and one of the few cutting-edge physicians in the country with the expertise to properly balance these hormones. Fellowship trained and board-certified in anti-aging and regenerative medicine, Dr. Shanlikian has helped alleviate the symptoms of hormone imbalance in thousands of patients through customized programs of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, nutrition, nutritional supplements, and exercise.

Q: I have arthritis. Can physical therapy help me?
A: Arthritis is caused by the loss of cartilage in our joints. This places stress on bones and joints, leading to inflammation, pain, bone spurs, and stiff ness. In turn, these can cause pain during day-to-day activities and reduce one鈥檚 tolerance for many activities.
Physical therapists (PTs) are specialists in human movement, and arthritis is one of the most common conditions affecting movement. Physical therapy for arthritis begins with a detailed assessment of range of motion, strength, flexibility, and movement patterns. This information, along with the client鈥檚 goals, will allow the therapist to develop a customized treatment program.
Treatments usually involve manual therapy techniques, as well as specific therapeutic exercises aimed at strengthening weak muscles and stretching tight muscles. To reduce stress on arthritic joints, movement patterns 鈥 such as the way a person gets up from a chair or goes down the stairs 鈥 are identified and addressed. Modalities for pain relief, such as heat therapy or electric stimulation, may also be incorporated.
Whether your goal is to golf 18 holes without 鈥減aying for it鈥 the next day, or to simply get up from a chair without groaning and creaking, physical therapy may help with the pain of arthritis and allow you to lead a more active life.

Q: I鈥檝e tried for years to lose weight, but I鈥檓 still obese. Can weight loss surgery help me?
A: Minimally invasive weight loss surgery, either laparoscopic or robotic, reduces the amount of space in your stomach, so you eat less food (and, as a result, reduce your caloric intake). Unlike medical diets, surgery changes the body鈥檚 metabolism. This allows for sustainable and long-lasting weight loss when combined with proper lifestyle changes, including diet and exercise.
Gastric bypass makes the stomach into a small pouch and redirects the intestines. Sleeve gastrectomy removes a portion of the stomach, leaving a narrow tube. Surgical complications are extremely low and patients are usually home in one day.
With surgical treatment, weight loss is substantial 鈥 typically 80 to 100 pounds. The reduced weight can resolve or markedly improve illnesses that are linked to obesity, such as diabetes, sleep apnea, and hypertension, giving you a better quality of life.

Q: Is there a natural way to prevent the opioid epidemic?
A: Many people who are addicted to opioids are in pain, and they鈥檙e trying to find a solution.
Even high school students who are taking drugs for pain might seek out powerful opioids without realizing it can lead to dependency. Parents should be aware that there are natural ways to manage pain; one such option is to seek chiropractic care.
Chiropractic involves reducing pain naturally by aligning the vertebrae in the spine 鈥 which, in turn, reduces pressure from the nerves. This helps to reduce pain and also helps the body function better. Most of the pain in the spine is caused by a pinched nerve. If the cause isn鈥檛 addressed, the pain can become a chronic condition that may lead to long-term opioid use.
Rather than depending on medications for pain relief, why not call Chiropractic Works today to schedule a consultation to learn what they can do to help you or your child. Along with chiropractic, Chiropractic Works offers anti-inflammatory, natural supplements for people who have chronic pain. They work with doctors in other medical specialties to make sure you gain your life back without being exposed to the long-term use of opioids.

Q: My doctor said I need spinal disc surgery. I鈥檝e heard the results aren鈥檛 always very favorable. Can I still get spinal adjustments and/or spinal decompression?
A: Yes, you can. Surgery is always the last option, as surgical outcomes are usually not as successful as hoped and often result in a Failed Back Surgery Syndrome. While regular spinal adjustments can be very helpful, spinal decompression reduces spinal disc problems so much easier and, in most cases, in less time.
The Spinal Decompression table used at Upchurch Chiropractic is one of the best in the field. Dr. Stephen Upchurch also uses a McKenzie Repetitive Motion table to help strengthen the spine, and has a professional-grade cold laser to reduce pain and swelling. Based on MRI scans, he has seen marked improvements in disc issues after treatment. Patients report lasting pain relief without the need for drugs, injections, or surgery.

Q: Why are Americans getting bigger and sicker when we鈥檙e spending more money on health care?
A: Metabolic syndrome and Type 2 diabetes have reached epidemic proportions, and the growing epidemic of Alzheimer鈥檚 is likely here to stay. How did this happen?
From the medical literature, we know for certain that insulin is the driving factor behind the development of all of these diseases. The easiest way to manage insulin is to control your diet and have a plan for a healthy lifestyle. More importantly, address inflammation at its source. All the money being spent on drug research or inflammation boils down to insulin control.
With more than 1.5 million research studies on PubMed, the conclusion is that unless we maintain a healthy body composition and a low-insulin lifestyle, we can look forward to Type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease, chronic autoimmune disease, and neurologic diseases.
Over the past 20 years, Dr. Davis W. Brockenshire has transformed his practice and other practices to focus on helping people figure out what type of diet and lifestyle works best for them, in order to improve and restore their health and quality of life.
