CHRISTINE鈥橲 CUISINE /// Hidden away in plain sight in a modest strip mall in Ferndale is this surprising little spot that is the brainchild of Chrystyna Hrynorczyk-Adams. The restaurant serves Eastern European dishes including pierogies, kapusta (house-baked sauerkraut), and potato pancakes; an array of burgers made with house-ground meats; and excellent soups on a daily changing list. Just 16 tables fill the slender room decorated with local art. Caring service is a hallmark of Hrynorczyk-Adams鈥 approach. 729 E. Nine Mile Rd., Ferndale; 248-584-3354. L Mon.-Fri. D Mon-Sat. Br. Sat.-Sun. $12
TRATTORIA SERVENTI /// Joe Serventi has taken over the former Andiamo in Grosse Pointe Woods and is making subtle changes while retaining many of the popular dishes of the previous regime. The brick pizza oven turns out an array of medium thin-crusted pizzas and there鈥檚 an interesting daytime menu called Ten Under $10 that offers a real bargain. Recalling chef Aldo Ottaviani, who was instrumental in setting up the original Andiamo menu, evening dishes such as Veal Tosca, Chicken Tetrazzini, and Manicotti Alla Aldo typify the style.听20930 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Woods; 313-886-9933; L & D daily. $16
