How to Make Mai Tiki鈥檚 Mai Tai

in Ferndale combines the allure of an old-school speakeasy with fun of a modern tiki bar. Hidden behind a wooden door inside of , a new Japanese pub, Mai Tiki specializes in tropical drinks made with house made syrups, juices and hard-to-find ingredients.

While the Mai Tai has undergone many variations since it was first served at Trader Vic鈥檚 in 1945, Mai Tiki鈥檚 version is built upon the spirit of the original with a smooth blend of rum and citrus that creates a sweet and refreshing flavor.听Try out their twist on the classic cocktail at home with this recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 ounces white rum
  • 1/2 ounces dark rum
  • 3/4 ounces dry curacao
  • 3/4 ounces lime juice
  • 1/2 ounces orgeat
  • Lime wheel and mint sprig for garnish

Directions:

  1. In a cocktail shaker, combine all ingredients together, except lime wheel and mint. Add in ice and shake well until chilled.
  2. Strain over ice. Mai Tiki serves its Mai Tai in ceramic tiki mugs, but may be served in a wide-mouth, double rocks glass.
  3. Garnish with lime wheel and mint sprig.
