Dearborn-based workwear brand, Carhartt, has announced that it is dedicating its Spring 2023 round of bi-annual to empowering women in skilled trades, and supporting organizations that help them break the glass ceiling.
Now through Feb. 17, 2023, eligible nonprofit organizations that work to help women break into the trades can apply for the grants. Recipients of the grants will be announced in early March, ahead of International Women’s Day.
“While women have always played a vital role in this country’s rich history of labor, they remain disproportionately underrepresented in the skilled trades, where many of the jobs are historically male-dominated,” Linda Hubbard, the president and COO at Carhartt said in a press release.
“Carhartt was founded on the belief that careers in the skilled trades provide rewarding and inclusive job opportunities, and through our next round of grants, we strive to empower like-minded organizations that champion women as an integral part of America’s workforce.”
The “For the Love of Labor” grant program was launched in August of 2022 and is a first-of-its-kind initiative for Carhartt that was created to support community-based nonprofits in the U.S. that “educate, train, and place workers into meaningful skilled trade jobs.”
Four Michigan organizations, ,,,and, were chosen during the inaugural round of grants, which totaled $175,000.
Organizations that are eligible to apply for this round of grants must have a 501c3 designation and be based in the United States. They must also work to support a recognized apprenticeship industry and have established programs that serve at least 100 people a year.
