Jazz on the River returns to Trenton’s Elizabeth Park on Aug. 6 and 7. This year, the event is celebrating its 25th anniversary and will feature headliners Stephanie Mills and George Benson.
Mills, a Grammy-winning R&B singer-songwriter, played Dorothy in the original run of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical The Wiz. She performs on Aug. 6. Benson, another Grammy winner, is a guitarist and singer who has worked with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Blige, and the Gorillaz. He performs on Aug. 7. They’ll be joined by saxophonist Daryl Beebe, “urban violinist” Kym Brady, keyboardist Justin “Lee” Schultz,” flutist Alexander Zonjic, and more on the two-day lineup.
The 2022 event is the first time Jazz on the River has been held in two years. The festival has been led by artist director and organizer Alexander Zonjic since its inception.
“The fact that Jazz on the River has remained such a popular cultural event in Wayne County for 25 years is a testament not only to the top quality of entertainment that is recruited each year, but to the hard-working staff and supporters who continue to go over and above whatever is required of them to make sure this continues to be a joyfully memorable occasion each and every year…,” says Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans.
Elizabeth Park, located at 4461 Elizabeth Dr., will open at 10 a.m. each day of the festival and close after the final performances. There is no entrance fee for the event, but parking is $5 cash at the park. Shuttle buses will also be available from parking sites at Trenton Ice Arena, Trenton City Hall, and the corner of Jefferson and Elm Streets.
