Sometimes, he and his brother-in-law would even watch the players from the handicapped seats right behind home plate. In the years since, Betzold wrote a column called 鈥淏leacher Bum鈥 for the Detroit Free Press, co-authored Queen of Diamonds: The Tiger Stadium Story, and was one of five editors of this year鈥檚 Tiger Stadium: Essays and Memories of Detroit鈥檚 Historic Ballpark 1912-2009. | ||
Michelle and Chris GerardMichelle and Chris Gerard are a photography duo based in Detroit. They say their passion for the city is what motivates them to capture powerful images that tell its stories. While each of them has developed an individual aesthetic, it鈥檚 their collaboration that has landed their work in publications like National Geographic Traveler, Bon App茅tit, and Bloomberg. Off-duty, the Gerards 鈥 who shot our cover feature (page 52) 鈥 love photographing roller-bladers and parking huts around the city. | ||
Rebecca GoldenRebecca Golden coincidentally lives directly across the street from Lost River 鈥 one of the bars featured in her piece, which explores Detroit鈥檚 tiki scene (page 40). Golden鈥檚 written work has appeared in Bustle, Times of London, Salon, and The Atlantic. She has also been on the air with Wyoming Public Radio. Her book, Butterbabe, was published by Random House UK/Ebury.
