Just in time for National Donut Day, Dooped Donuts has opened the doors to its first brick-and-mortar store in downtown Detroit today. The business 鈥 which was formed during the pandemic and has been selling wholesale to local coffee shops since then 鈥 will offer handmade vegan donuts and Ashe Coffee beverages at the new shop.

鈥淒ooped Donuts was born at Ferndale Project鈥檚 drive-through market at the height of the pandemic,鈥 says Shalyn Getz, innovation director of Eastern Market Beer Co., in a press release. (Dooped Donuts and Ferndale Projects are subsidiaries of the brewery.) 鈥淚t started as an Instagram business, and over the last year, we鈥檝e seen exponential growth 鈥 but we鈥檝e never stopped focusing on the things that matter most to us: quality, flavor, and creating an amazing experience for our customers. This storefront location is the next step in that journey, and we couldn鈥檛 think of a better day to open than National Donut Day!鈥

The store is located at 1555 Broadway St. in the former Ashe Supply Co. location. Donuts are made by hand by a team of bakers at Detroit Kitchen Connect in Eastern Market, and customers can expect to find a rotating selection of flavors at the shop. Among the options are classic flavors, like Glazed and Chocolate Sprinkle, as well as more unexpected options, such as PB&J, Cookies & Cream, Pina Colada, and Mixed Berry Pie. Specialty lattes that pair with donuts as well as pour-overs, drip coffee, cappuccinos, and tea will also be available.

The team at Dooped Donuts hopes to break the stereotypes around vegan food. 鈥淭here鈥檚 often an assumption that food isn鈥檛 as good if it鈥檚 vegan, which is a very outdated way of thinking,鈥 says Jess Lum, production manager of Dooped Donuts and a longtime vegan pastry chef, in a press release. 鈥淚 want people to have a Dooped Donut and not be able to tell that it鈥檚 vegan 鈥 and love it because it鈥檚 a really great donut.鈥

The store will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Dooped Donuts will also be selling its treats this weekend at Ferndale Pride and Vegfest.
